Table Cloth Craft

My daughter Adeline received the Molly table and chair set several years ago for Christmas.  Although I love the set, the chairs have become a bit worn and tired looking, so we decided to fancy up Molly's table and chair set. We created a new raspberry pink (Adeline's favorite color) table cloth and slip covers for the chairs.  We decided it would be fun if we could change the look to match the occasion, so I embroidered the table cloth with a cute Happy Birthday sign to add to the fun.

This banner really sets the scene for a fun birthday party.  We added a set of the American Girl birthday plates and cups, and some cute erasers we found at Target for our desserts and voilà - a great party for our dolls!

Here's a close up of the American Girl birthday supplies.  We found this set at JoAnn's crafts.

The embroidered sign is removeable. This allows us to decorate for many different occasions.  If we decide not to have a banner we can turn the table cloth to the back as the other side is plain pink.

A few of the embroidered signs: Judge's Table, Bake Off, Tea Party, Dog Show, Highland Dance, and Beauty Pageant. Not show: Merry Christmas and Dance Recital. Of course the girls have put in several more requests.

The backs all have a velcro strip across the top so they can easily adhere to the tablecloth.

This has really given us a lot of play opportunity.  Our table has become the focal point of many hours of play.  My youngest loves to set up a beauty pageant with the table as the registeration table, the judges' table, and the awards table.

Here's a photo of our beauty pageant in progress.

We also created some sashes by embroidering velt strips. Some of our favorites: cutie queen and ultimate grand supreme.  If you don't have an embroidery machine you can still make sashes by cutting long velt strips - I took one piece of felt and cut it the long way into four strips.  Sew or glue the stips together (you'll need two for each sash) and add lettering either with perment marker or try stickers or embroidered letters from the craft store.  We found mini tiaras to crown our beauty queens  for 25 cents each at our local Party City.
