2012 - McKenna

It's the end of 2012 and McKenna will be leaving us, but for many of us collectors, I thought it would be fun to create a post with all of McKenna's items from 2012. All of the pictures are from the American Girl website.

McKenna book and doll - $105. McKenna is a girl who loves gymnastics. She has long carmel-colored hair and bright blue eyes. She wears a turquoise and grey striped dress and turquoise leggings. Her purple shoes have turquoise elastic straps.

McKenna's accessories - $26. Her accessories include a gymnastics tote bag, water bottle, ID card, snack, journal, money, book, letter and star necklace.

McKenna's started collection - $185. This started collection came with McKenna, her accessories, her books, practice outfit and a special warm-up outfit that was only available in the collection.

#24 - Wendy

This is my daughter's #24 whom she named Wendy after the famous Peter Pan character. She got Wendy for her 4th birthday along with Samantha's nightgown which was a perfect fit for Wendy.

I love #24's hair! She has a pretty curl to it.  I love her beautiful brown eyes and freckles.

Here's the outfit she came in. Her jeans have an embroidery detail to them and she has a striped, nylon jacket that zips up the front. In case she gets cold she can put her hood up. Underneath the jacket she has a long sleeve white t-shirt with a pink flower design on front.

Striped socks and tennis shoes complete Wendy's look.

Silverware for our dolls!

Here's our latest find - silverware for our dolls. We have lots of plates, bowls and cups, but not too much in the way of silverware.

We found these super cool forks at our local grocer in the pickle/olive isle.

There are 48 forks in the box. They are meant for hors d'oeuvres, but they are perfect for American Girl dolls.

They are lightweight because they are made of plastic although they look like they are made of real silver.

We pulled out a bunch to play with and are going to store the rest in the box in our craft storage so we will always have some when we need them.

My American Girl Christmas Tree - Part II

I loved Collecting the American Girl ornaments from Hallmark; unfortunately, they only made them for a few years. I believe the first year they released them in their "meet" and the second year they were released in their "holiday" outfits. Here's a few more ornaments from my collection:

 

 

Here's Josefina. You can see both models, above she's in her birthday outfit with her little lamb; below she wears her meet outfit.

I love the paint on Addy; her cheeks just glow.

Felicity is one of my favorite ornaments. I love the expression on her face. She looks all ready to head to the Christmas ball.

In all of the second year "birthday" ornaments the American Girl is seated. I love the attention to detail in the birthday ornaments. Everything looks just like the character's birthday setting with the American Girl's furniture and pet.

 

 

Kit is my favorite. I love her metal chair and her dog Grace. 

 

 

Kaya is the only birthday ornament that I was a bit disappointed with. I felt like she should have been next to her horse, but I do love her long braids and the painting on this ornament.

 

 



My American Girl Christmas Tree - Part I

I love decorating for Christmas and one of the things I love best is my American Girl Christmas tree. The tree is a pink tree that I picked up several years ago from a department store (now you can find small colored trees everywhere!) The ornaments are all from Hallmark. I collected them several years back and have enjoyed them ever since.

I usually place this tree in my kitchen up above my cupboards, but I thought I share some close-ups before I put it out of reach.

Samantha wears her birthday dress and sits in her wicker chair holding a stuffed bear.

Molly models her meet outfit. It looks like she's ready to share a special report with her mom!

 

 

Felicity wears her Christmas dress. She is playing the little guitar her Grandfather gave her while a sweet little lamb looks on.

 

 

 

 

I love the Kaya ornament; she looks so proud and brave, just like I imagined her character would be. 



An old-fashioned Christmas

Marie-Grace is wearing an old-fashioned Christmas dress.  The dress is a variation of a Felicity pattern.

 The dress is made from a velvet red fabric with a cotton Christmas themed insert (it has candy canes and holy details).

Marie-Grace is ready attend a fancy Christmas ball!

Little Red Dress

Mia is ready to attend a Christmas recital in her little red dress. Although a little black dress is the classic look, a little red dress adds lot of fun to any event.

 Mia's red velvet dress is made from a simple A-line pattern. There's lots of swing to the skirt and it can be dressed up with a belt, necklace or other accessories.

I loved the look of the little red dress so much that I decided to make Mia another outfit with the same pattern.  Since I had lots of red velvet material, I cut a second dress from the same pattern and then covered it with black lace.  This gives the dress an entirely new look.

Here's a close-up of the lace. This gives the dress a very formal look.  Mia can't wait to attend tonight's charity benefit!

The Little Black Dress

What girl doesn't need a little black dress?  Here's a simple little black dress that has lots of swing in the hem.

The dress is made from black velvet. It has a squared neckline and stops just above the knees.

This dress is made from a vintage '70's pattern. The pattern is for a Chrissy doll, but I added a bit more width to the pattern and it fits the American Girls perfectly.

I love to change the look around by adding a belt. I just tied the taffeta belt around the waist of this dress to add a little detail and change the look of the dress.  The nice thing about a little black dress is that you can play it up with lots of different details and accessories.  This is one of Daphne's favorite dresses!
